More and more families are making the decision to homeschool their children, part-time or fulltime, in America. As a result, today more than 3 million children are being taught at home by parents just like you. Nevertheless, home schooling is the right choice as long as you are a committed and involved parent with no history of mental illness and violence, and of course with at least normal intelligence.Home-school students may have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities in public schools, such as after-school programs, which are student activity programs that are run by a school and are not included in a graded course of study. As parents, you do not have to worry about who is taking guns or knives to school. Also, your children will not have to fear bullies at school, a specter that frightens children and negatively affects their academic success.Less Exposure to Alcohol and Drugs: The vast majority of children do not get drugs at home. Substances are introduced to them at school or near school. According to Green Crescent, children start drinking at the age of 12-13. These children are four times more likely to become alcohol dependent than those who wait until 18, the legal drinking age. ADHD-Free Children: Sitting in a hard chair for long periods is not comfortable. They are children and due to their normal behavior, such as sitting on the floor, standing up when they are uncomfortable, and running around when they need to burn off energy, nowadays, children are getting labeled more and more with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) or ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). That leads to pressure on parents to medicate their perfectly normal children with psychoactive drugs. However, homeschoolers are free to act normally and are able to learn what misbehavior is without being labeled. If your child is misbehaving, ask a parent with a big family. He or she will tell you what will work. Unfortunately, home schooling is illegal in Turkey. Public education is mandatory without exception. All children are required to be registered in public or private schools to comply with the National Education Basic Law. Parents who fail to send their children to school are charged as criminals, which at times may result in their imprisonment. Due to the legal constraints, Turkish parents face a great deal of difficulty in pursuing home schooling for their children because of their limited rights to participate in decisions that affect their children's education. As the education law explicitly refers to Turkish children, foreigners have an easier time home-schooling their children.Let's hope that modern Turkey will consider individual freedom, the fundamental human right to receive alternative education, and provide equal access to a quality education adapted to meet individual's needs.
