High demand for gold dresses and accessories

Made by a Kahramanmaraş-based jeweler out of 400,000 pieces of gold, a golden dress that weights 3 kilograms valued at TL 350,000 ($148,927) arouses interest among those who can afford it. Jeweler Ahmet Atakan said that they sold eight golden dresses when they first began making them, and they sold 10 more dresses last year after they caused a stir in the media. Emphasizing that they keep the identities of their customers confidential, Atakan said that foreign customers mainly purchase their dresses although they have sold a few dresses to Turks. "Azerbaijani businessmen show interest in our dresses. We have also sent these dresses to a couple of our customers in Qatar and Moscow," he said. The dress, which was designed by Atakan himself, were produced by 15 master tailors in two weeks. This year, the number of golden pieces used in the dress was raised to 400,000. "We sold 10 dresses after the promotion last year. We aim to sell more with this new design this year," he continued. Atakan said that their customers sometimes demand interesting things from them. "One of our customers wanted this dress to be made suitable for hijab. Since it was a different model that required more gold pieces and craftsmanship, it cost twice as much. Moreover, there was a customer who wanted to wear the golden dress on the beach," he claimed. Atakan stressed that they are also focusing on crown making this year after several requests by their customers. Stating that the golden crown, which is ornamented with rubies and diamonds, is more expensive than the dress, Atakan said, "The crown is custom designed and it is on sale for about $300,000."
