‘Taxiworld Turkey’ held at Istanbul Fair Center

Organized by Istanbul Chamber of Taxi Drivers (İTEO) and HKF Fair Organizations, Turkey's first taxi fair, Taxiworld Turkey, drew scores of taxi drivers as well as locals to the Istanbul Fair Center. While many interesting projects were displayed during the fair, Turkey and Germany co-production project "Taxi.eu," which is a smartphone application for hailing cabs, caused a stir at the fair. The project which is planned to be put into practice in March is currently used in more than 10 European countries and it has 62,000 registered taxis as well as 162,000 taxi drivers around Europe. Moreover, Taxi.eu is the first ever smartphone application for taxi hailing. The executive of the company that developed the project Hermann Waldner said that the application which is used in 90 cities of 10 European countries directs the customer to the nearest taxi via GPS. "The project intends to offer high quality and safe service for taxi customers by using the latest technology via their cellphones around Istanbul. Stressing that they aim to make a deal with 5,000 taxi drivers within one year, Waldner noted that they will offer modern taxi services to Istanbulites with their Turkish partners and organize a program for Turkish taxi drivers who will be in parallel with their traditional services. He stated the taxis will not wander around without costumers, the drivers will take credit cards and there will be connection between the application and taxi stands.
