"Fritillaria imperialis," also known as "kaiser's crown," whose flowers are regarded as the symbol of sorrow, presents a visual feast when its flowers blossom in the spring. Locals in Van's Gevaş district are guarding the unique plant as they fear that the flowers might be stolen. The rare flower is considered holy by Christians as they believe that the flower drooped when Jesus Christ was crucified.Blossoming in a cemetery located in the Aydınocak neighborhood, 40 kilometers from Gevaş, the flowers draw photography lovers as well as locals with their colorful sight. But the flowers also attract thieves. In response, the residents of Aydınocak have begun taking action in order to prevent the smuggling of the rare flower.

Nature loving locals stand guard day and night to stop people who intend to turn the kaiser's crown, also known as crying brides, into a commercial item.
