‘Cat town' established for stray cats

A new "cat town" was recently established in the northern province of Samsun for street cats, where they can live safely. Established by the Samsun Metropolitan Municipality in two years, the facility was founded in a 10,000-kilometer forest area within the municipal animal shelter. Street cats are collected and spayed before they are brought to their new home. The facility also takes care of sick cats and has a bridge and walking tracks, along with Bungalow houses where the cats stay, either individually or in groups.Hüseyin Aydın who is a vet and manager of the animal shelter, said district municipalities collected the street and sick cats. He said sick cats are first separated from others and placed under treatment. "Later, they are all spayed. Then they start to live in the facility. All cats can continue their life in a healthy and happy way," he said.Aydın noted that the walking tracks were established to keep cats from muddy areas in the forestry shelter. "The facility is like a five-star hotel for cats. Everything that is required for their health and life is provided here," he continued. Aydın said there is probably no other facility like this around Turkey. "The area can be extended if necessary. There are currently 50 cats here. It was established specifically for sick and vulnerable cats," he concluded.
