ShareTheMeal: World's first app against global hunger

With $0.50, you can provide enough food to feed a Syrian refugee child living in Jordan for an entire day. Launched Thursday last week, the U.N. World Program's (WFP) crowdfunding initiative "ShareTheMeal" raises funds to feed children fleeing the ongoing conflict in Syria. The app will help offer school meals to 20,000 Syrian children in refugee camps for a year. Available for iOS and Android, the app allows you to donate $0.50, or more, with a mere tap. You can choose how much you want to donate each time you give. Sebastian Sticker and Bernhard Kowatsch, two managers from the WFP, are the masterminds of the application. You can connect to the app through Facebook, allowing you to see the donations of your friends. Aiming to provide vital nutrition to and help Syrian children focus on their studies, the WFP believes that minor changes can save the lives of children in need. Reaching 80 million people with food assistance in 80 countries, the WFP reports that there are 795 million undernourished people in the world. In other words, one in nine people do not get enough food to live a healthy life. Hunger and malnutrition are the primary risks to health worldwide, U.N. data show.
