Recycling saves 3 million trees, 4 billion cubic meters of water

Three million trees and 4 billion cubic meters of water have been saved thanks to the recycling activities of the Environment Protection and Packaging Wastes Evaluation Foundation (ÇEVKO). The amount of water saved is equal to the annual water consumption of more than 27,000 households. Through the recycling of packaging waste, more than 1.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity has been saved, which can provide electricity to more than 580,000 households. The recycling of packaging waste has also avoided the excessive use of landfills as the recycled amount would otherwise cover an area that is equivalent to 373 soccer pitches. The foundation's plastic waste recycling projects have also saved more than 92 million liters of oil. ÇEVKO recycles paper, cardboard and composite waste packages throughout the year. In a statement to Anadolu Agency (AA), ÇEVKO Secretary-General Mete İmer said the foundation has engaged in recycling initiatives for more than 24 years. İmer said the foundation informs the public on the annual amount of discarded packaging and the importance of recycling for the country's economy and environment.
