A wealthy businessman from the city of Changchun in China has gone bankrupt after spending almost all his money to save hundreds of street dogs by transforming a slaughterhouse into an animal rescue center, reported Shanghaiist News. Wang Yan, 29, lost his pet pooch in 2012. "I went looking everywhere ... Finally someone let me go into [a] slaughterhouse to try my luck there," he said. Unable to find his lost dog, Yan was deeply influenced by the bloody scenes he saw and used his fortune to establish an animal shelter for them. "Right now, we only have 215 dogs," he said. "The most we've had at one time is 1,000, many of them have been adopted." Yan has gone into debt since he provided supplies to keep the shelter. "I do not accept monetary donations," he explained. "I only hope that kind-hearted people will be able to donate a few supplies to help build a home for these 200 dogs." Street dogs are currently an issue in China since dog slaughter is seriously common in certain cities.
