Genetic testing among children helps indicate choice of profession

Genetic testing is becoming more indicative of the choice of profession, said genetic specialist and physician Akın Sevinç of İzmir Genetic Center, where expert staff carry out analysis of the relationship between genes and character in children. "A Genetic Talent Test is done only once and allows us to decide their professional tendencies," Sevinç said. This test offers clues about children's tendencies toward different fields and whether they might be successful in certain professions. Sevinç said that it is possible to reveal the character and talent profiles of children by examining their genes. "This test helps parents to lead children into a profession or field where they will feel happy and successful in the future," she further said.

Stressing that parents may prefer expensive courses and schools if they are not well aware of their children's professional tendencies, Sevinç said that this test can save them from spending a fortune on children's education. "We help parents to make healthy decisions for their children's future," Sevinç added.

To carry out the test, a saliva sample is taken and single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) genotyping is conducted. The test results are available in four weeks and an education consultant helps to prepare a professional education plan, through application of the test results. The test can be conducted on children before they turn 12. The İzmir Genetic Center carries out research projects for research and development studies and TÜBİTAK.
