The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) is adding two more projects to its ongoing work in Africa. The agency will announce two new development projects in Uganda and Kenya during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's visit to those countries.The first project, which first lady Emine Erdoğan will oversee, is opening sewing courses for Islam University students as well as widows and young girls who do not have a university education. Islam University is a school founded for students from African countries and is financed by the Islamic Cooperation Agency. More than 900 female students are educated on the campus where the program will be. The instructors, who are graduates of universities in Turkey, will teach the courses.The aim of the courses is to make women a part of business life and strengthen their social status in their communities by providing them with sewing machines after they complete the sewing courses organized in collaboration with the Uganda Sena Foundation and TİKA. The second project, overseen by President Erdoğan, will be to support Kenya's agriculture with 12 tractors, one ambulance and support equipment. Within the framework of the 2030 vision prepared by the Kenyan government and revealing the country's primary economic and social development strategies, two tractors and support equipment, including plows, trailers and disc harrows, will be donated to each state with similar geographic, demographic, economic, social and cultural characteristics, including Lamu, Tana River, Garissa, Mandera, Isiolo and Wajir. The aim of the project is to provide sustainable agricultural development and food security in regions with important agricultural potential and fertile lands in Kenya.
