New monitoring system saves Turkey's Van cats from extinction


A new monitoring system is now in use to control Turkish Van cats, a rare breed of domestic cats, throughout the country.The Van Cat Research Center at Yüzüncü Yıl University has designed the monitoring system that will record all details about Turkish Van cats, helping them to control their breeding and condition much more easily. The computer-assisted system will also document the addresses of the cat owners and the information will be updated on a regular basis.Abdullah Kaya, the head of the research center, said that they have carried out many projects on the protection of Turkish Van cats and have received satisfactory results so far. The Van cat is known for its friendly demeanor, silky fur, lion-like walk, fluffy tail, eyes that are two different colors and a fondness for water, and is one of the rare animal species that is not hybridized.
