Magnum photo archive explores 50 years of football

To celebrate EURO2016, which takes place in France from June 10 to July 10, the French Cultural Center in Istanbul is hosting Magnum Photo Agency's photo exhibition "Planet Football" until the end of the championship. Istanbulites can see a selection of football photographs taken around the globe by photographers affiliated with the Magnum Photos Agency, which was founded in 1947.Football is a sport that has the power to unite people – a universal language for people around the world. While a good score helps people unite for a common joy and goal, some matches can lead to war between two countries, such as the war between El Salvador and Honduras after a match between the national teams of the two countries.Scenes captured by photographers in the "Planet Football" exhibition explore the transition of football, which turned into a marketed object from a sports, the enthusiasm of spectators and football's unbreakable link with society. French Consul General in Istanbul Muriel Domenach said that the photographs in the exhibition show people's devotion to this sport and explore the history of the sport in the last 50 years. The photographs, which blend the aesthetic of sports with the beauty of football, were taken in Japan, Turkey, Rwanda, Cambodia, Nigeria, Brazil, El Salvador, Italy, England and many other countries around the globe.
