Anatolian villagers grow flowers, export seeds to China


Located in Turkey's Bursa province, the village of Başköy has been in the spotlight recently for their beautiful flowers, which are the main income of local villagers.The local villagers have been fighting against the marble quarries operating in the region that were polluting the natural water coming down from Uludağ.Having won their legal fight, the villagers of Başköy have begun to grow their flowers with vibrant colors once again and export the flowers as well as the seeds to China while distributing the remaining parts to all over Anatolia.There are a total of 12 greenhouses in the village, each featuring 4,000 flowerpots. The greenhouses are mostly shared by different families. Each family earns approximately TL 5,000 ($1,376) per month.
