Spirit of Silk Road awakens at festival in Montenegro


Co-organized by Yunus Emre Institute, Confucius Institute and Azerbaijan Culture and Economy Center, the Silk Road Festival has been given the green light in Montenegro's capital city of Podgorica with its motto, "harmony for a peaceful development."The opening ceremony of the festival took place on Saturday at Podgorica Museum and Gallery and was overseen by Montenegro's Culture Minister Janko Ljumovic, Turkey's Ambassador to Podgorica Serhat Galip and Cihan Özdemir, director of Yunus Emre Institute in Podgorica. Speaking at the ceremony, Özdemir stressed the importance of the festival for the organizers as well as the locals and said: "For the first time three cultural centers located in Montenegro are collaborating for an event."Many surprises await festival-goers at the Silk Road Festival, which will run until March 30. The "Turkish Miniature Art" exhibition featuring works of late artist Nusret Çolpan, who was one of the most important miniature artists of Turkey, and his son Hasan Çolpan, is open for visit throughout the duration of the festival. The visitors are also able to watch marbling artists Yasin Elmas and Gülsüm Elmas performing their art and try their hand at the art themselves. Apart from the exhibitions of miniature, photography and calligraphy, an exhibition featuring the works of art students who have mastered the art of marbling is planned to open for visitors.The exhibition titled "Impressions," by renowned Azerbaijani painter Darvin Velibeyov, is hosted by the Azerbaijan Culture and Economy Center. Ss for Confucius Institute, it is to hold surprise events for festival-goers, including a presentation of Chinese tea culture. Nina Strugar, a student of Podgorica Yunus Emre Institute, is also scheduled to give a concert and sing the folk song featured in her debut album "Göçmen Kızı" (Migrant Girl).
