Millennial children often learn how to use smartphones or computers long before they even learn to walk.

A dependence on technology keeps the kids indoors, away from fresh air and their friends, which are vital for healthy development.

As a result, instead of playing traditional children's games, today's kids prefer to gather inside and play video games.

To teach the new generation the children's games of the 1980s and '90s, the Provincial Directorate of National Education has asked the teachers in Muğla province to encourage children to play traditional games in school.

The teachers were asked to teach their students how to play entertaining outdoor games, such as dodgeball and hopscotch.

Bodrum Provincial National Education Directorate Mustafa Semiz said they aim to draw children outside to play with their peers.

"With advancing technology, children have become addicted to the internet and smartphones. We are planning to organize tournaments at the schools and reward the children for playing these traditional children's games.

We want to pass down these games to future generations," Director Semiz concluded.
