A house owner in Muğla's Bodrum district settled a lawsuit that he filed for a man who forced his way into his house and used his belongings while he was away, opting to do so in exchange for 50 kilograms (110 pounds) of cat food to feed the cats of the neighborhood.

Mehmet Tosun, who was assigned to the case by the conciliation board, contacted the landlord and asked whether he was willing to settle the case with the defendant, who was in prison on charges of "violation of the immunity of residence" and "damage to property." Upon the decision of the landlord, who agreed to settle with the burglar in exchange for 50 kilograms of cat food, Tosun also contacted the defendant, who agreed with the terms and got out of jail.

The family of the defendant delivered the 50 kilograms of cat food to the neighborhood and handed it over to the manager of the site where the house of the complainant is located. Speaking to an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent, Kıyasettin Demir, one of the residents of the site, said the agreement is an important example of reintroducing criminals who regret their actions back to society. "It makes sense that the criminals who are accused of petty crimes can get out of jail by settling with the complainants," he added.
