Shin Shin, an 11-year-old giant panda at Tokyo's Ueno Zoo, has given birth for the second time in almost five years, Japanese news agency Kyodo confirmed.

Ueno Zoo officials shared Monday a blurred photo of Shin Shin with the cub, saying its gender was not clear yet.

Expected to boost Tokyo economy, the birth of this baby panda is just the second cub born at the Ueno Zoo in over two decades.

Tokyo Mayor Yuriko Koike has announced that they will carry out an opinion survey to decide the cub's name.

Meanwhile, government Spokesperson Yoshihide Suga welcomed the birth and wished for a healthy life for the cub at a weekly press briefing.

Brought from China along with its mate, Giant panda Shin Shin had earlier given birth in 2012. The cub, however, later died of pneumonia.

Curious whether Shin Shin will look after its newborn properly, zoo officials said that the baby panda will not be displayed for at least six months.
