Animal lover builds walkers for disabled dogs

Umut Bilir, who works as a locksmith in İzmir, helps disabled stray dogs with walkers that he produces for TL 15 ($4). Bilir earned the respect and love of his neighbors by building a walker for "Tosun," a puppy whose spine was damaged in a dog fight.

After that, he began to help other dogs around him. He is now building walkers for disabled dogs with plastic pipes, wheels from children's bicycles and sun shades from automobiles.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Bilir said the dogs that gain back their ability to walk with the walkers get their self-confidence back. He also stated that his only aim is to give a helping hand to the animals in need.

"I do not want any animal to be in need, if other disabled dogs need walkers, I am happy to build more. I do not charge pet owners for the walkers. I believe that people on the street should be more sensitive about the stray animals because this planet is not just ours. We need to give animals a right to live as well," he said.
