A Turkmen mother and her daughter gave birth at the same time in Turkey's central Konya province, after getting pregnant in the same week.

Doctors claimed that the simultaneous caesarean sections of the mother and daughter were a first in the world.

42-year old mother Fatma Birinci and her 21-year old daughter Ğade Birinci, who both fled to Turkey three years ago due to the civil war in Syria, shared their common excitement during their pregnancies and even learned the sex of their babies at the same time.

After giving birth to two healthy babies, the daughter-mother team was also personally congratulated by Health Minister Ahmet Demircan, who paid a visit to the hospital.

Obstetrician and Gynecologist Dr. Naim Ünsal told the state-run Anadolu Agency that he was very surprised to see a mother and daughter give birth at the same time.

"Statistically it is a very low chance. One may say even one in a million," Ünsa said.

Giving more information about the two births, the doctor said that Fatma Binici visited her daughter Ğade before the operation to be of support and calm her down; even she was experiencing painful contractions herself.

"I have become a mother and grandmother at the same time," Fatma Binici said, adding that she was very happy.

The mother and daughter duo named their children Recep and Tayyip after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying that they were grateful for Turkey to have welcomed their family after war broke out in their country.
