Turkish teens prefer watching TV over sleeping

Watching TV has become more than just a way to kill spare time. According to a study conducted by Hacettepe University, Turkish teens prefer watching TV over studying and even sleeping. The study conducted with the participation of 3,654 middle and high school students reveals that 96 percent of teens are watching TV. Among them, 56 percent spend at least four hours in front of a TV while 36 percent spend two hours watching TV.

On the other hand, 41 percent of all participants watch TV series for five hours a week, compared to 36 percent who watch TV series for two hours weekly.

Although the results indicate that Turkish teens prefer watching TV series, scientists say that the amount of time that they spend watching TV is worrisome, asserting that the increase in the amount of time spent in front of a TV is closely related to smart TVs as internet connection via TV enables watchers to access more content.
