According to research by global cybersafety company Kaspersky Lab, 46 percent of Turkish people do not take security measures on the internet and 48 percent do not keep keep their passwords safe.

The company's Head Security Researcher David Emm told Anadolu Agency (AA) that ransomware attacks increased 8.5 percent in the Middle East, Turkey and Africa in the first quarter of this year compared to the beginning of last year. Emm added those who commit cybercrimes are intelligent and professional.

Noting the attacks in the Middle East reached to peak in the beginning of this year, Emm highlighted that user awareness should be improved while the complication and variety of cyberthreats increase day by day.

"According to our search, Turkish users mostly do not take security measures on the internet. They also do not use any antivirus or internet security software in their computers or mobile phones. While it comes to the issue of passwords, nearly half of the users keep their passwords unsafely. Nearly one quarter of them write down their passwords in order to not forget them even if it endangers their security. Twelve percent of Turkish users have one common password for all their accounts. Thus, they can be online without any problems. However, one key that is used effectively can open all accounts," he continued.
