BADAKHSHAN, Afghanistan — The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency sent food aid to 750 families hit by last Friday's landslide in northeast Afghanistan's Badakhshan province.The Turkish Consul-General in Afghanistan Güneş Yeşildağ arrived with the agency's Mazar-i-Sharif province coordinator Kemal Kadir Karadoğan to deliver the aid.Karadoğan told Anadolu Agency that he felt the need to help people in hard situations after the disaster."We have earlier delivered aid to the victims of the landslide, but we came back to help these 750 families who suffered," said Yesildag.Over 2,000 are thought to have died after a landslide hit a village in Badakhshan province last Friday.Afghan officials formally stopped the search for survivors and declared the disaster area a "mass grave" on Saturday.
