Israel launches military attack on Gaza, 22 wounded


At least 22 Palestinians have been wounded in the early hours of Tuesday morning in a series of Israeli air, ground and marine operations on the Gaza Strip, officials said."At least 22 Palestinians, including two children, were injured in Israeli raids," Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudrah told the Anadolu Agency.Israeli planes launched at least 60 strikes in Gaza, according to eyewitness reports. An Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson said in an official Twitter account that the IDF had launched "Operation Protective Edge" to target Hamas militants in response to missiles fired to Israel from Gaza."As #Hamas continues to fire rockets, the IDF will respond forcefully to protect #Israeli citizens," the spokesperson said on Twitter. Tensions have been running high in the region since Wednesday, following the kidnap and killing of a 16-year-old Palestinian boy in a suspected "revenge" attack by Jewish settlers near Jerusalem.The Palestinian boy's murder came hot on the heels of the discovery of the bodies of three missing Jewish settlers.The Israeli army has detained hundreds of Palestinians since the three settlers' disappearance last month.
