Egypt court approves 78 minors' appeal

A court in the coastal city of Alexandria on Monday approved an appeal lodged by the lawyers of 78 minors against jail sentences handed them previously, a judicial source said. The minors were handed jail terms between two and five years in November of this year, the source added. They were accused of staging unlicensed protests, possessing arms and explosives and joining the Muslim Brotherhood, which was banned by the Egyptian government late last year. The minors' lawyer, Ahmed al-Ghamri, said they were arrested in the period between January and May of this year.Egyptian authorities have arrested hundreds of supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi-a Muslim Brotherhood leader himself-since his ouster by the army in July of last year.
