Saudi guard killed, 4 Americans held by Houthis

At least four Americans are being held in Yemen by rebels who toppled the U.S. backed government, according to a newspaper report, and the State Department said Saturday it is "doing everything we can to get these individuals released." Citing unnamed sources, The Washington Post said attempts to free the Americans have failed. The Americans are believed to be imprisoned in the capital Sanaa, which Saudi Arabia has repeatedly bombed in a campaign to oust the rebels, known as Houthis, from power, the report said. "We have seen reports that several U.S. citizens have recently been detained in Yemen," the State Department said in a statement. "We are doing everything we can to get these individuals released. "Due to privacy considerations, we do not have any further personal details or information to share," the agency said.

Saudi Arabia's state news agency has reported that shelling from Yemen has killed a border guard and wounded seven as a coalition the kingdom leads continues to target Shiite rebels there. The Saudi Press Agency reported late Saturday that the Lance Cpl. Ismail Mohammed Ibrahim Sindi was killed by the shelling targeting the kingdom's Jazan region. The agency said "the border guard dealt with the situation accordingly," without elaborating.
