Taliban hangs Afghan woman in front of husband, children over adultery charges

A group of armed militants hanged a woman to death over adultery charges in north-eastern Afghanistan, a government official said Sunday."A woman was found guilty of adultery charges during a Taliban court hearing in Warduj district on Saturday," said Nawid Frotan, the governor's spokesman for north-eastern province of Badakhshan. The 27-year-old mother of three was publicly hanged in front of her husband and family, and other residents of Teergaran village, Frotan said.A representative from the Taliban movement was not immediately available for comment. The Taliban is active in the volatile Warduj district and frequently carry out insurgency attacks targeting civilians and Afghan security forces.Around 100 Taliban fighters attacked a large security outpost in the district last month, forcing Afghan troops deployed there to surrender. They were later released after mediation by the local tribal elders.
