Daesh kills Sunni soldier in northern Iraq


A member of the Sunni "Al-Hashd al-Watani" (National Mobilization) group in Iraq was killed by Daesh on Saturday, a Hashd al-Watani official said. "Daesh fired mortars on the Al-Hashd al-Watani military training camp near the Iraqi city of Mosul," Col. Hassan Amin told Anadolu Agency. "One soldier was killed and another was injured."Daesh had launched scores of mortar fire into Bashiqa Camp where Turkish Special Forces train Kurdish Peshmerga forces on Dec. 16. Four Turkish troops were wounded and two Iraqis were killed in the attack. According to the Turkish military, Turkish forces exchanged artillery fire with Daesh militants.Turkey said it has been running a training program at a camp established in Bashiqa, near Mosul, to provide training to Iraqi volunteers as part of its fight against Daesh. Turkish troops at the camp are not assigned combat duties.On Dec. 4, Turkey reinforced the protection component of its units at the camp due to increasing threats to their security.Following a series of bilateral talks to alleviate Iraq's concerns, Turkey rearranged the number of troops in Bashiqa and the additional security elements left the camp on Dec. 14.
