Suicide attack hits Shiite mosque in Iraq's Baghdad, kills at least 8


A suicide bomber Friday blew himself up inside a Shiite mosque in the Iraqi capital Baghdad, killing at least eight people, police said.A further 32 people were injured in the attack, which occurred during a congregational prayer in the district of Radwaniyah in south-western Baghdad.The Interior Ministry said police had shot dead a second bomber near the mosque before he could detonate an explosive belt he was wearing.No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing.Several suicide bombings of Shiite mosques in Iraq have previously been carried out by Sunni extremists, who regard Shiites as heretics.Iraq is engaged in a US-backed fight against the extremist Daesh militia that controls key areas in the country.
