Russia does not plan to interfere with some Arab countries' decision to cut diplomatic ties with Qatar, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

Lavrov said that Moscow's position is that the current diplomatic rift in the Gulf region was a concern of each country involved, adding that, while Russia understood that disputes were bound to occur, the country was "never happy" to see problems in relations between states.

"We are interested in keeping good relations with everyone, especially in the region, where the most important thing is to focus all efforts on fighting the common threat, which is that of international terrorism," the Russian foreign minister said.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow hoped that the Qatar diplomatic crisis would not affect the regional intention to counter terrorism.

"We are interested in maintaining good relations. We want the Persian Gulf to be stable and peaceful," Peskov added.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Bahrain, Yemen and the Maldives announced Monday they would suspend relations with Qatar, quickly prompting a diplomatic crisis in the Gulf region.
