US set up new military camp in northern Iraq, KRG chief of staff claims

The U.S. is setting up a military base in the Makhmur district of Irbil, Jamal Eminki, chief of staff of the Peshmerga forces from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said Friday.

Most of the U.S. military equipment stationed in the Qayyarah area was transferred to Makhmur, to support troops fighting Daesh terrorists in Hawijah, a town located 45 kilometers west of Kirkuk, Eminki told Turkey's state run Anadolu Agency.

Eminki claimed that a large arsenal of heavy weaponry, artillery and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) are currently stationed in the KRG-held Makhmur district.

The U.S. set up a military base in the town of Qayyarah, 60 kilometers south of Mosul to liberate Mosul from the Daesh terror group in 2016.
