US sticks to inaccurate travel advisory for Turkey

The United States Department of State updated its travel advisory for its citizens visiting Turkey on Thursday, but it shows little change from an earlier advisory and portrays its ally Turkey as a hellish place.

Turkey is placed at travel advisory level 4 by the United States. "Reconsider travel to Turkey due to terrorism and arbitrary detentions," the advisory on the department's website reads. It explicitly urges Americans not to travel to Hatay, Kilis and Gaziantep, places popular among tourists of other countries, citing "terrorism."

The advice also covers almost the entire southeastern region, which has been a hotbed of terrorism by the PKK. Although no major terror attack took place in the region in the past two years except for assaults on security forces, the advisory says terrorist groups continue plotting possible attacks.
