Elazığ-based Harput Symphony will perform at Cemal Reşit Rey, one of Istanbul's most prestigious concerts halls. Thanks to the efforts of the Elazığ Culture and Publicity Foundation and its president Mehmet Çağlar, the concert will also host prominent names from the Turkish art world and will be recorded, adding to Elazığ's repertoire.Founded in 2013, the Harput Symphony gave its first concert in Elazığ at the Nurettin Ardıçoğlu Cultural Center. The symphony, which performed Turkey's capital city of Ankara in 2014, will kick off a nationwide tour to introduce Elazığ's Harput music to music lovers. The Harput Symphony was founded upon the philosophies of late musician, Fikret Memişoğlu, who said: "One day, composers will only adopt techniques and methods from the West and they will construct a local musical system that features our own spirit and excitement. Moreover, musicians will regret not having discovered the musical treasures of our lands sooner," he said. In a statement to the press, the Elazığ Culture and Publicity Foundation's president said that now they are ready to introduce the musical spirit and the treasure of Anatolia to the world. The Harput Symphony will give their tour the green light at their Istanbul concert on Saturday at 8:00 p.m. at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall. Co-organized by the Elazığ Foundation's Federation and the Elazığ Culture and Publicity Foundation, the concert will host the Adana Çukurova State Symphony Orchestra, the Istanbul State Turkish Folk Music Choir and the State Folk Dances Group. Feryal Türkoğlu, Barış Yanç, Zeynep Halvaşi and Zafer Erdaş, the most prominent opera performers of Turkey, will be featured as soloists and Elazığ-based clarinetist M. Şerif Çaça will accompany the symphony onstage. The concert will also be broadcast live on the state run television channel, TRT (The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation).
