New year brings music and theater
Veteran guitarist Marc Ribot, who attracted a great deal of attention from Istanbulites during his concert at the Salon last year, will visit Istanbul once again in April for those who missed out on the previous performance.

İKSV Salon will continue to host talented musicians as well as jazz and classical musicians. Salon will also screen performances of the National Theatre on the silver screen



The freshest names of the international music industry and brand new domestic projects will find their spot at İKSV's (Istanbul Culture and Arts Foundation) Salon in 2016. Moreover, screenings of the National Theater's sold out show will continue in the new season. The bests of contemporary music at İKSV SALON Belgian indie, post-rock band Marble Sounds will be the first band to be welcomed at the Salon in the New Year as a part of %100 Müzik on Jan. 16. The quartet features Manu Delago, who performs with electronic rhythms and acoustic instruments such as the cello, piano, percussion and bassoon, and will share their hypnotic rhythms with Istanbulites on Jan. 20. American Seth Haley's synth-wave project Com Truise will possess the Salon with the band Men With a Plan as part of the Limits Off concert series.Marble SoundsFrench instrumental musician Sylvain Chauveau, with her electronic rhythms, along with Londoner dubstep and synth pop duo Darkstar, and Icelandic trip-hop band Bang Gang will stop by the Salon as a part of the Limits Off and Garanti Jazz Green concert series, respectively, in February. The Salon will also continue to host independent record companies as a part of its innovative event "Fabrika Label Night," in 2016. The special event will welcome the Berlin and London-based post-punk duo Lebanon Hanover, Greek gothic-punk duo Selofan and prominent Turkish indie-alternative band She Past Away. The event, which will take place toward the end of February, will present electropunk and new wave rhythms for three days in a row. In March, the Salon will be set on fire: Irish young noise-rock ensemble Girl Band, British singer, songwriter and guitarist Cate Le Bon, and the Dagestani kemençe virtuoso and shining star of ethnic music, Mark Eliyahu, will perform at the Salon. Moreover, Swedish bass guitarist and composer Dan Berglund, who previously rocked the Salon with his jazz rhythms, and Danish musician Brian Batz's dream-pop Sleep Party People, which previously performed at the Salon with rabbit masks, will be guests of the Limits Off concert series in March. American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and composer Emily Wells, American singer and songwriter William Fitzsimmons, Montreal-based post-punk band Ought, British post-rock band Yndi Halda and German singer and songwriter Konstantin Gropper's new indie rock band Get Well Soon will be at the Salon in April. The coming of the spring will be celebrated with more concerts in April as well. American experimental noise-pop band Xiu Xiu will cover the soundtracks of David Lynch's cult '90s TV series "Twin Peaks" and will give an extraordinary concert to Istanbulites. Born in New York City, the Indian-origin pianist and composer Vijay Iyer will push the boundaries of jazz at the Salon. Grammy Award-nominated jazz drummer from New York City, Mark Guiliana, along with his quartet will fill the Salon with jazz in the spring. Composed of Turkey's living jazz legends Sarp Maden, Volkan Öktem and Alp Ersönmez, the ensemble MADENÖKTEMERSÖNMEZ will heat the stage for jazz lovers while internationally recognized percussion virtuoso Okay Temiz and Swedish saxophone virtuoso Lennart Aberg will meet their fans at the Salon as well. Jazz vocalist, composer and songwriter Şenay Lambaoğlu will launch her new album "Başka Türlü Bir Şey" at the Salon. Versatile drummer and percussionist Mehmet İkiz, who was born in Istanbul but lives in Stockholm, will put on a performance featuring jazz, afro-funk and pop. Kırıka will be the guest at the Salon once again with their original compositions blending tango and traditional Anatolian music. The accomplished duo of Turkey's independent music scene, Nil İpek and Can Kazaz, will give consecutive performances on a special night there as well. The ensemble İncesaz will also take the stage at the Salon and perform their traditional compositions and authentic music.Nil İpekThe event "From Sofar to Salon," which was first devised in October, will continue in the new season. The event will take place every month and provide an opportunity to get to know new musicians. The music event Safar Sounds takes place around the world, and has been hosted in Istanbul since 2013. It brings new and independent musicians together with music lovers in the living room of a different house every month. Fresh musicians that we are introduced by Sofar Sounds are scheduled to perform at the Salon and have a chance to give a more professional concert. New plays of the National Theater on the Salon's screenSkylightAs a part of the Salons initiative "Oyun Salonu," a new play by the National Theater is screened at the Salon every month on Sundays. Starring Bill Nighy and Carey Mulligan, "Skylight," which was nominated for a Tony Award in seven categories and won one for "The Best Revival of a Play," will be screened at the Salon in January. In February, the documentary of the real-life story of world-renowned physical theater DV8, which won 50 different awards and starred in 18 different productions and four TV films, will be screened at the Salon.
