IKSV Salon to present various genres this week

The Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts venue Salon hosts four concerts with jazz, hip hop, Turkish classical and pop music this week



Hosting international musicians and bands throughout the year, Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts' (İKSV) Salon is ready to host concerts of various genres including jazz, pop, hiphop and Turkish classical music this week. The concerts will be performed by Jose James, İsmail Tunçbilek and Bang Gang.Jazz classics set to the rhythm of hip-hop with Jose JamesArtfully combining modern jazz with hip-hop, American vocalist Jose James discovered jazz at a very young age as he was changing radio stations. Creating a formula through which he could combine modern jazz melodies with a light soul and hip-hop timbre, James soon earned a place in the international music world. He began performing at jazz festivals such as Umbria, Nice and North Sea, and gained a solid place among avante garde musicians after dozens of concerts. Later, he started working with some of the world's most famous jazz musicians when he signed a contract with one of the most original companies in jazz music, Blue Note records. Interpreting jazz classics such as "Embraceable You," "Autumn in New York" and "Lush Life," and following in the footsteps of jazz masters such as John Coltrane, Marvin Gaye and Billie Holiday, James will take the stage at Salon on April 27 at 9:30 p.m. as part of the 100% Music Concerts.Bağlama master İsmail Tunçbilek to share the stage with guitar virtuosoRenowned worldwide for his bağlama skills, İsmail Tunçbilek, and Turkish guitar virtuoso Cenk Erdoğan will come together in a hotly anticipated performance at Salon. Tunçbilek has followed in the footsteps of his father Sabri Tunçbilek, who was also a musician and taught his son his personal methods and style. Collaborating with musicians such as Mısırlı Ahmet, İbrahim Tatlıses, Ebru Yaşar, Hakan Taşıyan, Ömer Hayrat, Emir Abdül Megect and Tarık Akif Yahya, Tunçbilek is considered one of the best bağlama players in the world.Erdoğan skillfully uses a variety of instruments in his music, such as fretless and pitched guitars, an e-bow and stringed tambura, and he is also seen as one of the most intriguing composers in recent memory, including the scores he composes for plays and films. These two doyens of eastern music will share the stage at Salon on April 28 at 9:30 p.m.Bang Gang to regale concertgoers with soul-piercing trip-hopFounded by Icelander trip-hop band Bardi Johannsson in Rejkavik, Bang Gang has performed at many international festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, Montreaux Jazz Festival, Icelandic Airwaves and South by Southwest. Starting out as a surf band, Bang Gang was later carried away on a wave of pop. Their songs have featured in the TV series The O.C., the movie Cashback and Citroen and Emporio Armani commercials. They have collaborated with world-famous names such as M83, Anthony Gonzales, Ladytron and Helen Marnie. Bang Gang released their fourth album, an atmospheric, dream-like pop collection, in 2015. Bang Gang will perform at Salon on April 29 at 10 p.m.The muse of jazz music, Django Reinhardt, to be commemorated at SalonThe prominent names of Istanbul jazz continue to commemorate the legends of jazz music as part of Garanti Jazz Green: Jazz Tree concert series, organized in collaboration with nuDC and Salon IKSV. Having commemorated giants of the music world such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong and Chet Baker thus far, the event series will feature pieces by jazz guitarists in upcoming performances. Starting with Joe Pass, the concert series will be celebrated with one of the greatest muses of jazz guitarists, Django Reinhardt. Vocalists Şirin Soysal, Başak Yavuz and Ülkü Aybala Sunat, guitarists Bilal Karaman and Mehmet Mutlu, along with contrabassist Baran Say will perform at the concert, which will be presented by Vedat Özdemiroğlu on April 30 at 10.30 p.m.
