World-renowned American musician, composer, poet and writer Patti Smith will perform in Istanbul as a part of her world tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the release of her album "Horses" on June 23 at Zorlu Performing Arts Center.The highly influential 1970s punk icon will share the stage with Lenny Kaye, Jay Dee Daugherty and bass guitarist and keyboard player Tony Shanahan, with whom Smith has been working for the last 20 years. Commenting on the world tour marking the 40th anniversary of "Horses," an album considered by many to be a milestone in the history of rock music, Smith said that the tour will be a "proud and a genuine celebration."Smith, who has influenced a who's who of the most successful musicians from Michael Stipe to Morrissey, Madonna, Courtney Love, Nirvana and Garbage, was a pioneer of punk music in the mid-70s and cementing her place in the history of art and music with her albums, poems and books. Smith has voiced her opinion that she can express herself better in writing. She won the National Book Award for her 2010 book "Just Kids" which portrayed her magical life in New York in the 1970s. She also made bestseller lists last year with her book "M Train," a sort of memoir and travel book. The 69-year-old artist, who led the vanguard of punk rock with her 1975 album "Horses" and is called "wise woman" by critics of the scene, will give a once-in-a-lifetime show on June 23 at Zorlu Performing Arts Center in Istanbul.
