International Jazz Day will be celebrated on April 30, Sunday with free concerts in Zorlu Performing Arts Center (PSM). Renowned for its numerous jazz projects, Ülkü Aybala Sunat is putting on the event featuring Elif Çağlar, the first female jazz vocalist in Turkey to fully write, compose and arrange her own album. The Garanti Jazz Green Concert series welcomes music enthusiasts to the PSM amphitheater for some outstanding jazz.After graduating from Konya Selcuk University Sports Academy in 2000, Ülkü Aybala Sunat performed in various venues around Konya and later took the stage as a soloist and chorister at the Konya Music Foundation under the leadership of conductor Yaşar Kaltakçı. She went on to perform in Konya and Ankara with her band S5, later receiving the Nardis Special Award in the Nardis Jazz Vocal Competition in 2007. Having been featured in a number of events, such as "Cappadocia Jazz Days," Sunat has been involved in a variety of projects, including "Jeff Buckley Songs" with Eylül Biçer, Nilüfer Verdi's "Knidost," Ediz Hafızoğlu's "Nazdrave" and the Social Inclusion Band. Her solo album "Artiz Kahvesi," featuring Eylül Biçer on guitar, Volkan Topakoğlu on bass and Erdem Göymen on drums, was produced by Eylül Biçer and released via Kabak & Lin.Elif Çağlar studied jazz composition at Istanbul Bilgi University's Department of Music and released the album titled "1-10" with Bagdat Avenue in 2002. She received her master's degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music, which operates in cooperation with New York Queens College. Having performed in various venues internationally, including New York's 55 Bar, Nublu and the Knitting Factory, Çağlar has also been featured in prestigious world festivals, such as the Istanbul International Jazz Festival, the Akbank Jazz Festival, Bratislava Jazz Days, the Pristina Jazz Festival, the One Love Festival and the Luxembourg Autumn Leaves Jazz Festival. Her solo album "M-U-S-I-C" was released in 2011 under Nu-Dc Records and was well received both in Turkey and abroad. She became the first female jazz vocalist in Turkey to fully write, compose and arrange the songs in her own album. In her second album "Misfit," released in 2015, she was accompanied by acclaimed jazz musicians Aaron Parks, Harish Raghavan and Eric Harland.
