Turkish jazz tunes enjoyed in Kosovo


Long awaited by Kosovar jazz lovers, the 6th Turkish Jazz Week starts today and will run for three days. Under the auspices of Turkish Jazz Week organized by the Yunus Emre Institute, jazz lovers will have a chance to listen to Turkey's talented musicians in Pristina and Prizren.

Since its foundation, the Yunus Emre Institute has organized many festivals abroad with a mission to familiarize the world with Turkish culture and language. The institute aims to bring Turkey's successful jazz performers together with Kosovar music lovers.

One of the unique vocalists of Turkey, female jazz poet Şenay Lambaoğlu, will be at Turkish Jazz Week. "I'm so happy to represent both Turkey and my music as a female jazz performer there," Lambaoğlu said. Enriched with splendid concerts, Turkish Jazz Week is one of the most popular and highly anticipated festivals of Kosovo.

In the festival, Anatolian tunes harmonized with jazz will meet art lovers. This year, three different jazz groups will perform on three different nights in the context of the festival. Along with the Şenay Lambaoğlu Quintet, Can Çankaya, Volkan Polat, Eser Yıldız and Berke Özgümüş will perform today on the opening night of the festival.

The second concert of the festival will be conducted by the Prizren Culture House tomorrow evening. The Authentic Anatolian Project, consisting of Eylem Pelit, Brenda Berin, Ercüment Orkut, Çağdaş Oruç, Volkan Öktem will greet jazz lovers. Widely recognized for his second album "Terennüm" ("Pleasant Singing"), Merih Aşkın will present Anatolian sounds combined with jazz tunes.

Turkish Ambassador to Kosovo Kıvılcım Kılıç said, "We will spend three splendid nights full of jazz for the sixth time." The festival is expected to host a large group of music lovers.
