Bodrum in southwestern Turkey's Muğla is set to host the 14th International Gümüşlük Classical Music Festival between July 26 and Sept. 4, confirmed Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon at a recent press event.

Alongside prominent Turkish musicians, artists from Norway, Brazil, Italy, France, Russia, Cuba and South Africa will attend the festival, said the festival's art consultant, pianist Gülsin Onay.

"The event will consist of 15 main concerts. Some prominent figures of classical music will take the stage throughout the festival. We will also hold a piano contest this year," she said.

The festival will incorporate three different concepts, "On stone," "On sand" and "On water."

Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon said events like the classical music festival will lift the city's image.

He claimed that among Turkey's tourism centers, Bodrum hosted the highest number of art events.

"You cannot come across a place like Bodrum that organizes quality art events along the Mediterranean coast. We support all kinds of arts and we will continue supporting them. We're trying to raise Bodrum's status. It is already an attractive destination thanks to the quality music," he said.

"Our beautiful country desperately needs such events at such difficult times. Art is something that brings people together and helps create an atmosphere of unity, brotherhood, and peace," Kocadon said.
