A German spa town once home to Elvis Presley has big plans to commemorate the king of rock and roll this year.

Now in its 16th year, Bad Nauheim's European Elvis Festival is scheduled to take place Aug. 18-20, kicking off just two days after the 40th anniversary of the cultural icon's death.

Elvis lived in the town in the central German state of Hesse from autumn 1958 until early 1960, during which time he was stationed as a soldier in neighboring Friedberg.

Fans of the King can attend concerts, watch films and enjoy displays of cars dating back to the 1950s and 1960s.

But the highlight for most will be a glimpse of the guest-house room in which he once lived. The building recently reopened as a hotel, but the Elvis suite has remained unchanged.
