Turkey is expected to enter an intense week as Presidentelect Erdoğan takes over the presidential palace and FM Davutoğlu will form the new government as the new PM



A busy week in Turkish politics is beginning following Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's election as the 12th president of the Republic on Aug. 10 and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's nomination for the prime ministry and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) chairmanship post. Meanwhile, in the opposition ranks, the intra-conflict tension is high in the Republican People's Party (CHP) while it prepares for an extraordinary convention on September 5-6. This week, Erdoğan is expected to receive his certificate of election from Parliament Speaker Cemil Çiçek, to take his oath at the Turkish Parliament as the 12th Turkish president. According to the schedule for transition ceremonies of the presidency and prime ministry, Erdoğan will leave his prime ministry post at the AK Party extraordinary convention on Aug. 27 where Davutoğlu is expected to take on the AK Party's chair.Following the ceremony, Erdoğan is expected to host Davutoğlu at the presidential palace to give him the authority to establish the 62nd Turkish government. A vote of confidence session will follow in Parliment. An intense week in Turkish politics is beginning following Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's election as the 12th president of the Republic on Aug. 10 and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu's nomination for the prime ministry and Justice and Development Party (AK Party) chairmanship post on Aug. 21.This week, Erdoğan is expected to receive his certificate of election from outgoing President Abdullah Gül, to take his oath at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) as the 12th Turkish president and give the authority of government formation to Davutoğlu.According to the schedule for transition ceremonies of the presidency and prime ministry, Erdoğan will leave his prime ministry post at the AK Party extraordinary convention on Aug. 27 where Davutoğlu is expected to take on the AK Party's chair. On Aug. 28, President-elect Erdoğan will take his oath at the Parliament and receive his certificate of election. Following the handover ceremony, Erdoğan is scheduled to visit Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the founder of the modern Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and later he will head to the Çankaya Presidential Palace in Ankara to take over the presidential seat from Gül. Reportedly, "A" type, high level protocol will be implemented at the presidential palace for Erdoğan's presidency.The ceremony at Çankaya Palace will officially inaugurate Erdoğan's presidency. Erdoğan and his wife Emine will bid farewell to outgoing president Gül and his wife Hayrunnisa at the palace.Following the ceremony, Erdoğan is expected to host Davutoğlu at the presidential palace to give him the authority to establish the 62nd Turkish government. The government program is scheduled to be read at the Parliament and the vote of confidence will be held.The list of those who will attend Erdoğan's oath-taking ceremony is also becoming clearer. According to sources in the prime ministry, representatives from 53 countries are expected to attend the ceremony. Reportedly, 14 countries will attend the ceremony at the presidential level, including, Turkmenistan president Gurbanguly Malikgulyyewic Berdimuhamedow, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Ukrainian President Petro Oleksiyovych Poroshenko, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliyev and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev. A committee to represent the U.S. is expected to attend the ceremony.Sources said that the head of the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces was invited to the ceremony to represent the Syrian nation. Eight attendees at the prime ministry level are expected to take part in the ceremony as well.Also, representatives including Secretary-General Kyrylo Tretiak of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Secretary-General Dmitry Fedorovich Mezentsev, the Developing Eight (D-8) Secretary-General Seyed Ali-Mohammad Mousavi, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Secretary-General Jose Angel Gurria, and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) Secretary-General Lamberto Zannier are expected to attend the ceremony.While the AK Party has witnessed a historic month, the main Turkish opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıcdaroğlu, who has been dealing with the increasing intra-party tension after the Aug. 10 presidential election defeat, refused to attend Erdoğan's handover ceremony at the Parliament.
