Turkey's First Lady Emine Erdoğan visited an orphanage in the Republic of Djibouti on the morning of January 25, during President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's four-day official visit to the Horn of Africa. Emine Erdoğan was accompanied to the Daryel Orphanage by Djibouti's First Lady Kadra Mahamoud Haid, and concerned herself with the children in the orphanage. On the occasion when she took two newly born babies, named Tayyip and Emine, on her lap, she was observed to be very emotional.The Daryel Orphanage was established in 1978 with contributions of the wife of Hassan Gouled Aption, the first president of the Republic of Djibouti, and is currently housing children in need under the auspices of First Lady Kadra Mahamoud Haid. The orphanage houses a total of 110 children, with 40 girls and 70 boys. Following Erdoğan's visit to the orphanage, the two first ladies went to National Women's Union of Djibouti, where Erdoğan gave a speech to the women of Djibouti. In her speech, Erdoğan said that Turkey has never approached Africa with a colonizing perspective and that Turkey will continue to help Djibuti.
