Twelve out of the 18 Gülen Movement-linked police officers detained in the wiretapping probe carried out in nine cities, including Van, were arrested early Monday.The officers were charged with being a member of a criminal organization, fabricating crimes, forgery of documents, violation of privacy and unlawfully recording data. The remaining six officers were released and will be subject to judicial control procedures.The investigation was initiated by the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and was simultaneously carried out in other cities including Gaziantep, Kayseri, Ordu, Ankara, Mersin, Adana, Aydın and Manisa.The Gülen Movement is a transnational organization accused of wiretapping government officials and encrypted phones and infiltrating state institutions with the alleged aim of overthrowing the democratically-elected government.Ankara wants Gülen to be extradited from the U.S. where he has lived since 1999. An Istanbul criminal court has issued an arrest warrant for Gülen as part of a probe into the "parallel structure" operation.
