Seven PKK members surrender to Turkish security forces in Şırnak


Seven members of the outlawed PKK have surrendered to the Turkish security forces in the southeastern Turkish province of Şırnak, according to a statement released by the Şırnak governorate on Saturday.According to the statement, a total of 747 members of the group surrendered to Turkish authorities between March 21, 2013 and June 13, 2015.Turkey as well as the U.S. and the European Union recognize the PKK as a terrorist group.Before the election, it was expected by the public that the PKK would end its armed insurgency against Turkey if the pro-Kurdish HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) passed the 10-percent election threshold. In the elections, the HDP passed the threshold with 13.1 percent of the votes, but the PKK still attacks Turkish military forces in the southeastern region.
