Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu said in the first parliamentary group meeting since the elections on Tuesday that the result of the June 7 general elections, in which the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) received 40.87 percent of the vote, shows that the nation has given the AK Party the authority to form a coalition government.Drawing attention to the fact that the AK Party was unable to have a deputy in only five provinces, Davutoğlu said the AK Party has the highest representation capacity both mathematically and politically. "Other parties do not represent the whole of Turkey. The AK Party came first in 56 provinces. In 23 provinces it was second and in two provinces it was third," he added.

Commenting on the formation of a coalition, Davutoğlu drew attention to the opposition parties' long list of coalition demands and said those who want to work with the AK Party should "unclench their fists first and bury their weapons." He also harshly criticized those who question the legitimacy of the president. "The nation is the source of legitimacy, not the lobbies nor the negotiations behind the scenes," Davutoğlu said, adding that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was democratically elected with 52 percent of the vote and that they will not tolerate any attempts to question the legitimacy of his position.
