Half of HDP voters want coalition with MHP

Half of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) supporters want a coalition of the Republican People's Party (CHP), the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and the HDP, according to a survey conducted by Politic's polling company.

Polling companies continue to reveal public opinion of which possible coalition government they support, as there is still no sign of negotiations between the parties over partnerships. According to a new survey conducted by Politic's polling company with 1,300 participants in 12 provinces, 57.14 percent of Republican People's Party (CHP) supporters prefer a coalition between the CHP and the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) while only 14.35 percent of AK Party voters want a coalition with the CHP. Some 23.08 percent of HDP voters support an AK Party-CHP coalition. While the MHP closed its doors to the HDP and has not altered its stance since the elections, the survey suggests that 42.31 percent of HDP voters support a coalition between the CHP-MHP and HDP. The MHP said firmly it would not be part of a plan that involves the HDP. Such a coalition, although mathematically possible, would be quite difficult to actualize since the right-wing MHP's strongly nationalist ideology clashes with that of the pro-Kurdish HDP. The MHP, which stipulated ending the reconciliation process in its manifesto, is likely to conflict with the HDP over its aspiration.
