Turkish Parliament met Wednesday in an emergency session to look into the terrorist bomb attack in Suruç, which killed 32 and injured dozens, as well as other terror acts in southeastern Turkey. The session of Parliament started at 12:00 GMT (15:00 local time). The Parliament is currently in summer recess, but a petition was submitted last week that was signed by at least 110 deputies of the Republican People's Party (CHP), requesting an extraordinary session to be held to discuss the escalating tension in the country since July 20. The Parliament discussed the causes of Suruç bombing suspected to be undertaken by an ISIS militant as well as other terror acts committed by the PKK since then, while the proposal to establish a parliamentary commission regarding latest terror incidents was overruled by Turkey's Parliament.Deputy PM Bülent Arınç said during the session in the parliament that out of the 1,061 suspects detained by Turkish security forces since July 24 in anti-terror operations, 545 have been referred to court by public prosecutors, 172 of whom have been convicted. Of those arrested, 31 are charged with having ties with ISIS, Arınç stated. Accordingly, 156 terror suspects were released and 201 were released under judiciary control, Arınç added. After the Suruç suicide bombing in southeastern Turkey, Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the PKK blamed Turkey for the massacre on baseless claims and the terrorist organization has since martyred 11 Turkish officers.Following the PKK's killings, Turkey has intensified its anti-terror operations. Having conducted many airstrikes against the self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq (ISIS) and PKK terror organizations within the country and in Syrian and Iraqi territories, Turkey is fighting against both terror organizations effectively.Turkey's Prime Ministry released a press statement on Wednesday regarding the latest operations carried out against ISIS, PKK and DHKP-C terror organizations both within Turkish borders and in Northern Iraq.Over the night connecting July 28 and July 29, PKK camps in Northern Iraq, namely Zap, Metina, Gara, Avaşin-Basyan, Hakurk and Qandil, were hit by Turkish fighter jets in an operation named after martyred Major Arslan Kulaksız, the statement read. The number of detained suspects against ISIS, PKK and DHKP-C in the operation initiated last week has increased to 1,309, the statement added.
