Deputy PM calls MHP leader ‘Mister No' for opposing ‘everything'

Deputy Minister Yalçın Akdoğan called Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli "Mister No," saying he has an understanding that is against everything.

Speaking at a Justice and Development Party (AK Party) meeting in Ankara, Akdoğan said Bahçeli's uncompromising attitude failed the coalition talks and for this reason the country is heading to an early election with a caretaker government for the first time. "Bahçeli initially said they have four conditions to form a coalition government and closed the door to it. We said lets form an election government and go to the elections together or let's establish a minority government or even take the [early] election decision in Parliament. He said no to everything. I wonder what kind of political style this is," Akdoğan said on Saturday.

"Mr. No, against everything," Akdoğan said about Bahçeli, drawing an analogy between Bahçeli and the Italian comic book Mister No.

Asserting that during the 45-day period of coalition talks his party acted responsibly, Akdoğan said they have done everything to not leave the country without a government. Explaining that for the first time in Turkish political history the country is going to run by a caretaker government, Akdoğan said the MHP is even now trying to escape political responsibility by not participating in the caretaker government. "Their uncompromising stance and negative attitude that says no to everything brought the country to this point," he said.
