Turkey is not a country that would ever tolerate terrorism, says Erdoğan

In his speech at the Presidential Palace in Ankara, Erdoğan emphasized Turkey's determination to fight against terror, saying that the members of the PKK terrorist organization must "bury their weapons"

President Erdoğan gave a speech late Sunday in the 30 August Victory Day commemorations held in the Presidential Palace in Ankara, especially touching upon recent attacks by the PKK terrorist organization."Turkey is not a country that would ever tolerate terrorism. The terrorists, the looters trying to harm the peace in our country will pay for their crimes," said the president in his speech.Criticizing the PKK and its supporters, he said that PKK members must "bury their weapons" or "leave Turkey forever."The president also commented on Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) deputy Tuğrul Türkeş accepting the offer of PM Davutoğlu, contrary to his party's decision not to take part in the interim cabinet. "Türkeş has accepted the offer of Mr. Davutoğlu and has become the new deputy Prime Minister. That's purely normal and natural," said Erdoğan. Adding that he believes the nation will choose stability and peace in the upcoming snap polls, he said that he is hopeful that Turkey will be much more peaceful after the November 1 early elections."I believe that our government, our military, our Ministry of Interior will take every precaution needed for safety in the upcoming snap elections," he said, implying the PKK's pressure on the locals of eastern and southeastern Turkey to vote for the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP). Commenting on the HDP's call to lay down arms, he said that he does not find the call sincere. "HDP has won 80 seats in parliament, but PKK terror has broken out, once again. Why did that happen? The deputies of the party supported by the PKK itself, are now in parliament, so why didn't the PKK lay down the arms immediately after the elections? HDP passed the threshold but the PKK intensified its terror attacks against Turkey. We will never stop our fight against terror" he added. The Turkish government has intensified its counterterror operations following the recent attacks carried out by the PKK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S., the EU and Turkey.Formed in 1978, the terrorist group has been fighting the Turkish government for an independent state until the early 2000's. The group then shifted its goal to autonomy in predominately Kurdish inhabited regions of Turkey.
