Low number of applications received for CHP deputy nomination
Deputy candidate applications for nomination for the Republican People's Party (CHP) ended Monday, Sept. 7. The party changed for the presumptive nomination procedure, designating the lists with quotas and a central examination instead of primary elections, which has caused the number of applications to be less than expected. The number of applications for the CHP in the Nov. 1 snap election is around 500.
Reportedly, CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu wants to tests the water for candidates from provinces where the CHP failed to receive seats in Parliament after the June 7 elections.
It is expected that Kılıçdaroğlu will re-nominate figures that were candidates last time around and were elected in June. A procedure including primary elections will be applied for eastern and southeastern provinces in which no CHP candidate was elected.
On Aug. 31 Kılıçdaroğlu said in an exclusive live interview on NTV news in Ankara that the party will enter the early elections with almost the same list of deputy candidates as the June 7 general elections during.
Explaining that the current lists were formed through primaries, he said only minor changes will be made, signaling a change in the lists in provinces where the CHP had a poor showing in the June 7 election.
