President Erdoğan calls CHP chairman over attack on headquarters

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called Republican People's Party Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on Tuesday to express sympathy for the recent attack on the party's headquarters in Ankara. According to presidential sources, Erdoğan told Kılıçdaroğlu that the investigation to find more information regarding the incident is proceeding and that he is closely following the issue. Kılıçdaroğlu thanked him in return for his sensitivity and attention, according to reports. The assailant who opened fire on the CHP headquarters in Ankara on Oct. 26 was identified by security forces on Wednesday as Ali Hamurcu, who previously claimed that he wrote a book to defame a Justice and Development Party (AK Party) municipality in return for "several millions of lira" from the CHP and its leader. After being taken into custody, Hamurcu reportedly told officers that the attack on the CHP headquarters was the result of his anger against Kılıçdaroğlu, who he accused of not keeping his promises to stand by him during the lawsuits he faced. Meanwhile, Hamurcu was released on condition of judicial control on late Wednesday.
